Ace That Test! Vital Free Tools for College Entrance Testing
ByOkay so now you’ve decided on a college or two, and how you have to get into college, and well to be honest that can be the challenge, perhaps it’s been years since you were in college, or perhaps you’ve never considered college until now, you want to make a change in life and have decided that the only way to get the education you want is to attend college and they have this set of tests you have to take to get in, what are you going to do?
Well, that’s a good question:
- The first thing I’d do is to ask my Admissions Advisor is if they have an outline for what’s going to be on the test. Often you can find a guide from the school so that you know what to study for as you prepare for the test.
However if you don’t get one from your college, then I’d ask the Advisor if it contains all the components of a the SAT or ACT, and which ever they deemed is closer content wise. From there, I’d go to the library or your local books store and grab a copy of the SAT or ACT study prep. This is very helpful no matter whether you are looking to understand the topic better or whether you are looking to understand various testing techniques.
I’m not sure if you’re aware or not, but some people are hired to simply write tests for you to take.
Sometimes I want to have a conversation with these individuals, and ask what were they thinking?
Well for the college entrance exam there are some excellent resources that will help you get from A to Z on understanding testing and what resources you can use to make sure that you’re ready.
- Be sure to check the internet, there are some great resources that you can find which will really help you get ready for a test to get into college, such as the ones below.
There are SAT and ACT prep study guides online, the one I found most helpful was http://www.math.com
This is an excellent resource for understanding the basics of math as you prepare to get into college. With this free study guide you are able to choose the area or subject you’re weak in and work on this to improve your skill level so that you can get into college.
In addition you can look to college test programs where you are able to learn what the test has in store and how to navigate it. Check out these resources from http://www.collegeanswer.com/preparing/content/prep_test.jsp
- Do you need a little extra TLC? If there is a specific subject you need a bit more coaching on I’d talk to the local library and find out if they offer complementary tutoring. Also be sure to check with the college to see if they have tutors that will help you in a specific area. Another person who might be helpful would be a retired teacher or someone who had a career in the field you’re interested in.
Here are some of the things you can expect to see on this site.
- SAT: This covers topics like math, reading comprehension, and vocabulary.
- ACT: A test designed to demonstrate your knowledge in, English, math, reading and science, at a college level.
